Adapted Programming
All programs promote a safe, friendly and supportive environment.
Recognizing the need for quality adapted programming for individuals in the Edwardsville area, the Special Needs Adapted Programs help individuals gain confidence, promote independence and responsibility, socialize and work with others, as well as nurture a healthy and active lifestyle.
Adaptive Open Gym Days (Ages 5-14)
This open gymnastics offering is designed for students that need extra supervision and a small student to coach ration while in our gym! Participants will have the ability to explore and do things at their own pace or just play with friends in our Gym! Students will have access to the Pit, Tumble Trak, Rod Floor, Beams, Resi Pits and Low Bars, depending on the age/ability of students. YMCA Staff will be on hand to help students as they explore the gym. All students will warm up together before free time begins. Please contact Tammy at [email protected] for more information. Interaction
The YMCA is proud to sponsor this exciting program for youth and adults with disabilities. This program allows middle school youth and older adults to interact in a social and recreational environment. After each event, the group gathers for late-night refreshments and great conversation!
The program usually meets either the first or second Friday of the month, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are held at the Niebur (Esic) Center.

Special Needs Swim Lessson with a Caregiver (Ages 7+)
This class is designed to create a safe environment for learning water safety, along with the basic swimming fundamentals for people with special needs. The caregiver needs to accompany the child in the water.
