Winter 2027 Junior Cougars Youth Basketball
We’re thrilled continue our partnership with SIUE to bring you the third year of the Junior Cougars Youth Basketball Program! This exciting collaboration is designed to provide a fun and instructional environment for young hoopsters to develop their basketball skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. With an exciting new look and rocking a new reversible Junior Cougars jerseys, the Edwardsville YMCA is back with another youth basketball for the kiddos!

In its third year and rocking the new reversible Junior Cougars jerseys, the Junior Cougars Youth Basketball League is an instructional league for 2nd through 8th graders looking to improve their basketball skills with an emphasis on fundamentals and equal playing time. Games will be played on Saturday mornings, with one practice per week on a weeknight of the coaches choice. There are 7 weeks of practices and 6 weeks of games! Junior Cougars Rookies Program
In its third year and rocking the new reversible Junior Cougars jerseys, the Junior Cougars Rookies Program is geared towards Kindergarten and 1st Graders that are new to the sport of basketball! Each Wednesday night at the Meyer Center, we will have a 45 minute long practice led by experienced staff members introducing the kiddos to skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. For 6 weeks, kiddos will use junior sized balls and shoot on 8ft hoops to help instill the skills that they can expand upon in the future.
The Edwardsville YMCA depends on parents and volunteers to make our sports leagues possible. Please consider coaching your child’s team!
Registration closes December 20th—NO late registrations will be accepted, so don’t miss out on the fun!

6th-8th Grade Girls 3-on-3 Basketball *NEW*
New this season! The Junior Cougars 3-on-3 Girls Basketball League is designed to give 6th through 8th grade girls an opportunity to develop their basketball skills in a fast-paced, competitive, and instructional 3-on-3 format. The league will emphasize fundamentals, teamwork, decision-making, and equal playing time. Games will be played on half court with two 12-minute halves and will use 2-point and 3-point scoring.
Games will be played on Monday nights. There will be one practice per week on a weeknight of the coach’s choice. Teams will consist of a minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 6 players, with 3 players on the court for each team. A minimum of 4 teams is required for the league to run. The Edwardsville YMCA relies on our parents and volunteers to keep its sports leagues available to our community. Please consider coaching your child’s team!
Division Specific Details: 6th-8th Grade Girls will use 28.5″ size basketballs and shoot on 10-foot hoops. Games will be played on the main half-court hoops, with the volleyball line serving as the out-of-bounds line. There are 7 weeks of practices and 5 weeks of games!

Rocking a newer look, the Junior Cougars Rookies Program is geared towards Kindergarten and 1st Graders that are new to the sport of basketball! Each Wednesday night at the Meyer Center, we will have a 45 minute long practice led by experienced Recreational Sports staff members and the Director of Sports and Recreation, introducing the kiddos to skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting.
Kiddos will use junior sized balls (27.5) and shoot on 8 foot hoops to help instill the skills that they can expand upon in the future.
